Website Terms and Conditions

Operated by Hillpair Ltd — Company Registration Number 791184 · Last updated: May 2026

By accessing or using this site, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

HowToStudy.ie is operated by Hillpair Ltd, a company registered in Ireland (Company Registration Number 791184). These terms are governed by Irish law.

1. What HowToStudy.ie Is

HowToStudy.ie is an introductory platform designed to help Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate students develop effective study habits and revision techniques. The platform:

  • Provides educational content on study methods and revision approaches
  • Connects students and parents with independent coaches who offer personalised study skills guidance
  • Offers tools and resources to support structured revision

We are currently in an early stage of development. Features, pricing, and content may change as the platform grows.

2. Who Can Use This Website

This website is intended for students aged 12 and over, parents, guardians, and educational coaches based primarily in Ireland.

If you are under 18, you should have the consent of a parent or guardian before engaging with any paid service offered through this platform. By booking a coaching session, a parent or guardian confirms they have given that consent.

3. Coaches on the Platform

Independent contractors

Coaches who offer sessions through HowToStudy.ie are independent contractors, not employees of HowToStudy.ie. The platform acts as an introductory service to connect students with coaches — it does not itself deliver coaching sessions.

Garda vetting

All coaches listed on the platform who work with persons under 18 are required to hold current Garda vetting clearance under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012–2016 before their first session is arranged through HowToStudy.ie. Coaches must:

  • Hold a valid Garda vetting disclosure at the time of registration and maintain this throughout their listing on the platform
  • Provide HowToStudy.ie with confirmation of their vetting status on request
  • Notify HowToStudy.ie immediately if their vetting status changes or if any vetting disclosure reveals a relevant matter

HowToStudy.ie reserves the right to remove any coach from the platform who does not hold or cannot confirm current Garda vetting clearance. Coaches who allow their vetting to lapse while listed on the platform must cease accepting new introductions until clearance is renewed.

Additional vetting and qualifications

Where a coach is a registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland, this registration serves as evidence of qualification and professional standing, in addition to Garda vetting. Coaches are expected to hold whatever qualifications and registrations are appropriate to their coaching role and to keep these current.

Our vetting checks

HowToStudy.ie takes reasonable steps to verify that coaches hold Garda vetting clearance before they are listed on the platform. However, we are an introductory platform and do not carry out Garda vetting ourselves — this is conducted by the National Vetting Bureau. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ask any coach directly to confirm their vetting status and to raise any concerns with us at info@howtostudy.ie.

Your relationship with the coach

Once you book a session, the coaching relationship is between you and the coach. HowToStudy.ie is not a party to that arrangement and is not responsible for what occurs within a session, subject to the safeguarding obligations set out in Section 8 below.

4. Booking and Payment

Sessions are currently booked and paid directly with coaches at €45 per session. Coaches set their own rates and HowToStudy.ie charges a small one-time introduction fee to connect parents with a coach.

Cancellation and refund terms will be agreed with the relevant coach at the time of booking. HowToStudy.ie is not responsible for disputes over payment between students or parents and coaches, though we will assist to resolve genuine complaints where we can.

We will update these terms if a centralised payment system is introduced.

5. Use of the Website

You agree to use this website for lawful purposes only. You must not:

  • Upload or share content that is misleading, harmful, or offensive
  • Attempt to access any part of the site you are not authorised to use
  • Use the site to contact, solicit, or approach coaches or students outside the platform for commercial gain
  • Reproduce or copy content from this site without our written permission

We reserve the right to remove access for anyone who misuses the platform.

6. Intellectual Property

All content on HowToStudy.ie — including text, tools, revision guides, branding, and design — is owned by or licensed to HowToStudy.ie. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from any content on this site without our express written consent.

Coaches retain ownership of their own materials where these are not produced as part of a HowToStudy.ie template or tool.

7. Privacy and Data

We take your privacy seriously. How we collect, use, and store your personal data is set out in our separate Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

In summary:

  • We collect only the information needed to operate the platform and connect you with coaches
  • We do not sell your data to third parties
  • We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as applicable in Ireland

If you have any questions about your data, please contact us at info@howtostudy.ie.

8. Safeguarding

HowToStudy.ie is committed to the safety and wellbeing of young people using the platform. As set out in Section 3, all coaches working with persons under 18 are required to hold current Garda vetting clearance under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012–2016.

In addition, coaches are expected to:

  • Conduct all sessions — whether online or in person — professionally and appropriately
  • Not communicate with students through personal channels outside those agreed with the parent or guardian
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times
  • Comply with any additional safeguarding requirements applicable under Irish law

If you have a concern about the conduct of a coach or any interaction through the platform, please contact us immediately at info@howtostudy.ie. We will take all concerns seriously, respond promptly, and where required refer the matter to the appropriate authorities.

Note: HowToStudy.ie is not itself a "relevant organisation" under the National Vetting Bureau Acts for the purposes of conducting vetting. Coaches are responsible for obtaining their own Garda vetting clearance through an appropriate relevant organisation prior to listing on the platform.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Irish law:

  • HowToStudy.ie is not liable for any loss arising from the conduct, advice, or actions of coaches introduced through the platform
  • We do not guarantee that coaching sessions will achieve any particular outcome or result
  • We are not responsible for any technical failures, interruptions, or errors on the website

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Irish law.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will indicate this on the website. Continued use of the site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ireland. Any disputes arising in connection with these terms or the use of the platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland.
